Sally Lightfoot Crab

Percnon gibbesi

Identification Flat, low-profile body with reddish-brown and orange striped legs. Very fast-moving with a distinctive spider-like gait across rock surfaces.
Maximum Length 3 inches
Origin Indo-Pacific, Caribbean
Minimum Tank Size 30 gallons
Reef Compatibility Generally reef safe

Behavior

Fast, agile algae grazer. Spends time on exposed rock surfaces in the open rather than hiding. Excellent at controlling filamentous and hair algae in display tanks.

Diet & Feeding

Herbivore. Voracious grazer of hair algae, filamentous algae, and cyanobacteria. One of the most effective herbivorous crabs available.

Cautions

May become opportunistic and nip at fleshy corals (Hammer, Frogspawn) or steal food from fish when algae is scarce. Keep well fed. Can be aggressive toward smaller tank mates.
