Ctenochaetus truncatus
| Identification | Small, oval-bodied tang with a dark body covered in fine orange-yellow horizontal lines and spots. The eye is ringed in bright blue. Closely related to and often confused with the Kole Tang. |
| Maximum Length | Up to 5.5 inches (14 cm) |
| Origin | Indian Ocean — Maldives, Sri Lanka, East Africa |
| Minimum Tank Size | 70 gallons |
| Reef Compatible | Yes — excellent |
Behavior
A peaceful, active grazer that works tirelessly to clean film algae and detritus from rockwork and substrate. Hardy and adaptable. One of the better options for smaller reef systems that need algae control.
Diet & Feeding
Herbivore and detritivore. Supplement with nori on a clip, spirulina, and marine-algae-based pellets. A healthy, varied diet helps maintain the vivid eye coloration.
Cautions
Avoid keeping multiple Ctenochaetus species together in smaller tanks.
