Identification Slender, colorful wrasse with variable green-to-orange body patterning with a distinctive black spot near the tail. Males often show blue-green and orange banding.

Behavior

Gets its name from its habit of rapidly diving into the sand when startled. An active swimmer that needs a sand bed of 2–3 inches minimum to sleep and hide in. Hardy once established.

Diet & Feeding

Carnivore. Feeds on small invertebrates and worms. Offer frozen mysis, brine shrimp, and finely chopped meaty foods.
