Behavior
Also called Starck’s Tilefish. A beautiful and active burrowing fish that constructs elaborate burrows in deep sandy substrate. Pairs bond closely and share burrows. Peaceful with most fish but will defend its burrow. Jumper — must have a tightly fitting lid.
Diet & Feeding
Carnivore. Feeds on zooplankton and small crustaceans in the water column. Accepts frozen mysis, frozen brine shrimp, and small carnivore pellets. Active feeder that swims in midwater to feed.
Cautions
Requires a deep sand bed (4+ inches) for burrowing — will not thrive without it. Jumps readily. Sensitive to copper-based medications.
