Color Variations
Clove Polyps is available in several designer color morphs. The coloration is purely cosmetic — every one takes the same care described above.
Overview
Clove Polyps (Clavularia) are hardy soft corals that form a mat of eight-tentacled, feathery polyps that wave gently in the current. Very forgiving and fast-spreading, they are a great beginner coral, sometimes sold as “Daisy Polyps” or “Fern Polyps.”
Care & Placement
Adaptable to low-to-moderate light and flow. Place low-to-mid on rock; they encrust and spread, so many keepers give them a dedicated rock so they do not overrun neighbors.
Feeding
Photosynthetic; feeding optional. They absorb some nutrients from the water and take fine particulate foods.
Propagation
Very easy — cut or peel a section of the mat and glue to a new rock or plug; it re-encrusts quickly.
Cautions
A spreader that can overtake rock — isolate or trim. Peaceful and non-stinging otherwise.
