Behavior
A powerful, fast swimmer that requires an exceptionally large aquarium to thrive. Generally peaceful with dissimilar tankmates but may challenge other large tangs. Vlamingi tangs are active throughout the water column and can become tame enough to hand-feed. Highly susceptible to ich under stress; quarantine before introduction and maintain pristine water quality.
Diet & Feeding
Primarily herbivorous in the wild, browsing on filamentous algae and zooplankton. In captivity, offer nori seaweed clips daily, algae-based pellets, and spirulina flake. Supplement with frozen mysis, brine shrimp, or other meaty foods a few times per week to meet its protein needs.
