Tube Anemone

Pachycerianthus mana

Identification Two rings of long, flowing tentacles (outer ring and inner ring) emerging from a leathery tube embedded in the substrate. Colors vary widely — purple, white, tan, or orange.
Maximum Length Up to 12 inches
Origin Indo-Pacific, Caribbean
Minimum Tank Size 30 gallons
Reef Compatibility Not reef safe

Behavior

Not a true anemone — a ceriantharian. Lives permanently in a self-made tube buried in sand. Emerges to feed primarily at night. Does not host clownfish. Fascinating display animal with flowing, hypnotic tentacles.

Diet & Feeding

Not photosynthetic. Must be fed regularly — offer zooplankton, brine shrimp, mysis, or small pieces of meaty marine food 3–4 times per week.

Cautions

Very potent sting — capable of killing fish and stinging neighboring corals. Must have a sand bed to anchor its tube. Not compatible with clownfish. Not reef safe.
