Saron Shrimp

Saron marmoratus

Identification Mottled green and brown body with tufted bristle-like appendages along the sides. Changes color dramatically between day and night.
Maximum Length 3.5 inches
Origin Indo-Pacific
Minimum Tank Size 20 gallons
Reef Compatibility Reef safe with caution

Behavior

Primarily nocturnal and very reclusive during daylight hours. Fascinating color-shift behavior between day (green/brown camouflage) and night (reddish). Ample rockwork for hiding is essential.

Diet & Feeding

Omnivore. Grazes on algae and scavenges for meaty foods. Will accept most prepared marine foods offered at night.

Cautions

Rarely seen during the day, so many keepers think it has died — check after lights out. May nip at small ornamental shrimp.
