Behavior
Also called the Tuxedo Urchin or Globe Urchin. A peaceful, attractive urchin that is one of the most reef-friendly and visually appealing urchins available. Grazes constantly on coralline and filamentous algae. Sometimes carries small shells or debris for camouflage. Active both day and night.
Diet & Feeding
Herbivore. Grazes on coralline algae, filamentous algae, and biofilm from rocks. Supplement with dried seaweed sheets if algae growth is limited. Provide plenty of live rock to graze on.
Cautions
May topple loose frags or small corals while moving across the rockwork. Otherwise reef safe and highly recommended for algae control.
