Behavior

Excellent detritus cleaner but an active predator of small fish at night. Hides during the day and ambushes sleeping fish after dark. Despite its beauty, it is one of the more dangerous serpent stars.

Diet & Feeding

Scavenger and active predator. Consumes detritus and organic waste, but also hunts and eats small, slow, or sleeping fish at night. Offer meaty supplemental foods.

Cautions

Will catch and eat small fish (under 3 inches) at night. Not safe in tanks with small, slow, or bottom-sleeping fish. Despite attractive appearance, often problematic in community reef tanks.
