| Scientific Name | Equetus punctatus |
|---|---|
| Identification | White body covered with bold black spots and a dramatically elongated first dorsal fin that sweeps back over the body. Juveniles display especially exaggerated fin rays. One of the most visually striking Caribbean fish available. |
| Maximum Length | 10 inches |
| Origin | Caribbean / Atlantic |
| Minimum Tank Size | 75 gallons |
| Reef Compatibility | Reef safe with caution — may eat small ornamental crustaceans |
Behavior
Peaceful and somewhat shy; gravitates toward shaded areas under ledges and overhangs. Best kept with calm, non-competitive tank mates that will not nip at its elongated dorsal fin. Juveniles acclimate more readily than adults.
Diet & Feeding
Carnivore. Forages on small invertebrates and crustaceans in the wild. In captivity offer frozen mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, chopped marine worms, and small pieces of meaty seafood. May require live foods initially to trigger a feeding response.
Cautions
Can be challenging to acclimate to prepared foods. Provide shaded hiding spots and avoid housing with aggressive or fin-nipping fish.
