Chaetodontoplus mesoleucus
| Identification | Distinctive tri-color pattern: black head and rear body, stark white mid-section, and a yellow tail. One of the most elegantly patterned angelfish in the hobby. |
| Maximum Length | Up to 7 inches (18 cm) |
| Origin | Western Pacific — Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam |
| Minimum Tank Size | 70 gallons |
| Reef Compatible | With caution — may nip at corals and clams |
Behavior
Also called the Vermiculated or Balloon Angelfish. One of the more popular Chaetodontoplus species due to its bold, clean pattern. Generally peaceful with non-angel species. Does best in tanks with stable water quality and live rock for grazing. Can be shy initially but becomes bolder with time.
Diet & Feeding
Omnivore. Feed sponge-based angel preparations, frozen mysis, brine shrimp, and marine algae. The white mid-body coloration can fade if sponge content is lacking in the diet.
Cautions
Sponge must be included in the diet for long-term health. May nip at corals. Acclimate carefully — wild-caught specimens can be slow to accept prepared foods.
