Orange Banded Prawn Goby

Orange Banded Prawn Goby

Amblyeleotris aurora

Identification White body crossed by several vivid orange vertical bands of varying width. Tall, sail-like dorsal fin. Clean, bold pattern makes it one of the showiest prawn gobies.
Maximum Length Up to 4.5 inches (11 cm)
Origin Indo-Pacific — Maldives to Pacific islands
Minimum Tank Size 20 gallons
Reef Compatible Yes

Behavior

A prawn goby that forms a symbiotic relationship with alpheid pistol shrimp. The nearly blind shrimp digs and maintains a burrow while the goby stands watch at the entrance, communicating danger through tail movements. A fascinating and educational pairing for any reef tank. Also sold as the Pink and Blue Watchman Goby.

Diet & Feeding

Carnivore. Feeds on small crustaceans and zooplankton. Offer frozen mysis, frozen brine shrimp, and live copepods. Place food near the burrow entrance to ensure it gets its share.

Cautions

Jumps easily — use a secure lid. Will be less visible in tanks without a pistol shrimp partner. Keep only one per tank unless mated.
