Identification Brown to tan body with a distinctive yellow to golden patch on the chin and throat area. A narrow white bar behind the pectoral fin and a pale crescent on the tail base are diagnostic features.

Behavior

Also called the Halfmoon Trigger. Named “Lei” in Hawaii for the yellow throat patch resembling a flower lei. A moderately aggressive triggerfish that is calmer than the Clown or Undulate Trigger. Adapts well to aquarium conditions and becomes a personable, interactive fish.

Diet & Feeding

Carnivore. Feeds on sea urchins, molluscs, crustaceans, and worms. Offer frozen krill, squid, silversides, shrimp, and meaty carnivore preparations.

Cautions

Will destroy invertebrates. Not reef safe. Can be aggressive toward tank mates, particularly smaller fish.
