Green War Paint Clown Goby

Green War Paint Clown Goby

Gobiodon histrio

Identification Olive-green to yellow-green body with irregular orange-red lines and blotches on the face and head — the "war paint" pattern. Small and cryptic among coral branches.
Maximum Length Up to 2.5 inches (6 cm)
Origin Indo-Pacific — Red Sea to Pacific
Minimum Tank Size 10 gallons
Reef Compatible Yes

Behavior

Like other Gobiodon gobies, lives among Acropora coral branches. Largely stationary, rarely venturing far from its chosen coral head. Peaceful and non-aggressive. Best kept as a mated pair in SPS reef tanks.

Diet & Feeding

Carnivore. Feeds on small crustaceans and planktonic organisms. Supplement with frozen mysis, baby brine shrimp, and copepods. Live foods help finicky wild-caught specimens acclimate.

Cautions

Mild toxic mucus — avoid housing with fish that may attempt to eat it. Needs established SPS corals to thrive long-term.
