Identification A small Atlantic filefish, variable olive-green to tan with mottling and a fringed belly flap (dewlap) it can extend, plus a single erect dorsal spine. Excellent camouflage among seagrass and algae. Also called the Fringed Filefish.

Behavior

A hardy, slow, curious filefish that hovers and drifts among algae and rock, changing color to blend in. Peaceful, but can pick at sessile invertebrates. Best in a FOWLR or fish-focused tank.

Diet & Feeding

Mysis, enriched brine, chopped seafood and marine algae; feeds readily.

Cautions

A slow feeder that is easily outcompeted; may nip corals and clams.
