Deepwater Candy Basslet

Liopropoma carmabi

Identification An exquisite small deepwater basslet striped lengthwise in orange-red and lavender-purple, with dark-spotted fins — one of the most prized (and expensive) Caribbean reef fish.
Maximum Length about 2.5″
Origin Caribbean deep reefs
Minimum Tank Size 30 Gal.
Reef Compatibility Reef safe

Behavior

A secretive, peaceful deepwater basslet that hides in caves and overhangs and bothers nothing. Shy at first, it grows bolder in a calm, cave-rich tank — a jewel for a peaceful reef.

Diet & Feeding

Carnivore. Offer mysis, enriched brine and small meaty foods a few times a day.

Cautions

Very shy initially and easily outcompeted by boisterous fish — house with peaceful tankmates and give it caves. A committed jumper; keep the tank covered. Small and valuable, so settle it carefully.
