Behavior

The Clearfin Squirrelfish is a smaller, more slender squirrelfish with a silvery body and reddish fins. Like its relatives it is nocturnal, hiding in crevices and under ledges by day and coming out at night to feed. Its modest size makes it more suitable for medium reef systems than the larger squirrelfish. It is secretive and peaceful, and appreciates a well-aquascaped tank with plenty of shaded hiding spots and dim lighting.

Diet & Feeding

Carnivore. Feeds on small crustaceans and zooplankton at night. In captivity accepts mysis shrimp, chopped seafood, and small meaty foods; feed in the evening. May be shy initially.

Cautions

Secretive and nocturnal — may hide, especially at first. Will eat very small ornamental shrimp. Provide caves and dim lighting. Sharp fin spines — handle carefully. Keep with peaceful tank mates that will not outcompete it for food.
