Black Sea Cucumber
Holothuria sp.

| Identification | A dark, sausage-shaped sand-sifting sea cucumber that slowly plows through the substrate ingesting sand. |
|---|---|
| Maximum Length | 8″ |
| Origin | Indo-Pacific |
| Minimum Tank Size | 50 Gallon (mature sand bed) |
| Reef Compatibility | Reef safe. A beneficial detritivore that cleans and aerates the sand bed. |
Behavior
A hardy, slow-moving deposit feeder that constantly processes sand, removing detritus, uneaten food and algae — an excellent natural sand cleaner. Needs a deep, established sand bed with enough surface area to feed.
Diet & Feeding
Detritus, diatoms and organic material sifted from the sand; supplemental feeding is rarely needed in a mature tank.
Cautions
Like all sea cucumbers, if it dies or is shredded by a pump it can release toxins that harm the tank — screen pump intakes and provide adequate sand area. Needs an established system.
