Pavona sp.
| Care Level | Easy to intermediate |
| Lighting | Moderate |
| Water Flow | Moderate to high |
| Placement | Mid rock |
| Aggression | Peaceful |
| Coloration | Green, brown, cream ruffled plates |
Overview
Pavona (the “Cactus” or “Potato Chip” coral) grows in thin, ruffled, folding plates and blades, making an attractive, textured SPS colony. It is hardy, fast-growing, and one of the easier SPS corals, tolerating a wider range of conditions than Acropora.
Care & Placement
Give moderate light and moderate-to-high flow to keep the folds free of detritus. Mount mid on rock with room for its plating/branching growth. Forgiving and quick to establish.
Feeding
Photosynthetic; stable parameters and light drive it. Optional light feeding.
Propagation
Easy to frag — cut a blade/plate and glue to a plug.
Cautions
Provide enough flow that detritus does not settle between the folds. Hardy and peaceful; a good SPS for newer reefers.
