Congrogadus subducens
| Identification | Long, eel-like body, usually mottled green-brown, sometimes with eyespots (ocelli) along the body. The Carpet Eel-Blenny. |
| Maximum Length | 10–18 inches |
| Origin | Indo-Pacific reefs and rubble |
| Minimum Tank Size | 55 gallons |
| Reef Compatibility | Reef safe with corals — but a predator of fish and shrimp |
Behavior
The Ocellate (Carpet) Eel-Blenny is a secretive, eel-like predator that lurks in caves and rockwork, ambushing prey. It is hardy and interesting but grows sizable and will eat small tank mates. Coral safe, but not fish- or shrimp-safe.
Diet & Feeding
Carnivore. An ambush predator of small fish and crustaceans. Offer meaty foods — silversides, shrimp, and chunks of seafood — a few times weekly.
Cautions
Will eat any fish or shrimp small enough to swallow. Provide caves and a tight-fitting lid — it is a skilled escape artist. Coral safe but keep only with tank mates too large to be eaten.
