↑ All Snails

Nassarius sp.

Identification Small, elongated cone-shaped shell in creamy tan or brown. Has a long siphon used to detect food from a distance. Usually buried in sand with only the siphon visible.
Maximum Length 0.75 inches
Origin Caribbean, Indo-Pacific
Minimum Tank Size 10 gallons
Reef Compatibility Excellent

Behavior

Buries in sand substrate and emerges rapidly when meaty food is detected. One of the best sandbed-stirring snails available, preventing dead spots and hydrogen sulfide buildup. Very fast and active when food is present.

Diet & Feeding

Scavenger. Feeds on detritus, uneaten fish food, and decaying organic matter. A critical member of any sandbed cleanup crew.

Cautions

Requires a sand substrate of at least 1 inch depth. Will not thrive on bare bottom. Benefits from regular target feeding (silversides, meaty foods) in tanks with few fish.
